Roald Dahl is a famous British writer of children's stories. He wrote some world-famous stories such as James and the Giant Peach, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Matilda.
Roald Dahl was born in 1916 in Wales. Dahl isn't a Welsh name—both of his parents were from Norway. Sadly, Roald's father died when he was four years old.
From a young age, Dahl was sent away to school. $\bf \Delta$ He didn't like the school rules and often got in trouble at school. He missed his mother a lot and wrote to her almost every week.
After finishing school, he went to many different places like Canada and Africa. He flew planes in the Second World War (战争) and was badly hurt in an accident in Egypt.
After the accident, he moved to America and started writing. When he started, he didn't write children's books. He wrote stories for newspapers and magazines. At this time, he married (结婚) his wife, Patricia Neal.
Roald Dahl loved telling his children bedtime stories and these bedtime stories gave him the ideas for his children's books. His first children's book James and the Giant Peach came out in 1961. After this, every book he wrote was popular.
Roald Dahl died at the age of 74. In his lifetime, he wrote 19 children's books. His books have sold more than 250 million copies across the world.
