WILD GIANT PANDA POPULATION GROWTH
The number of wild giant pandas has increased from about 1,100 in the 1980s to nearly 1,900, based on the results of the Fourth National Survey on Giant Panda.
HABITAT GROWTH
Since the 1960s, China has created 67 nature reserves mainly to protect giant pandas and their habitats. The area for giant pandas has grown from about 1.39 million hectares to about 2.58 million hectares.
RETURNING GIANT PANDAS TO THE WILD
China started a study to release giant pandas back into the wild in 2003 and has set free 12 giant pandas after special training. Now, 10 of them are still living in the wild.
INTERNATIONAL GIANT PANDA PROTECTION WORK
China has done joint research on protecting giant pandas with 26 organizations in 20 countries and has successfully raised 41 groups of giant pandas and 68 baby giant pandas. The number of giant pandas living in zoos around the world has reached over 720.
These achievements are not only a victory for giant pandas but also an important step forward in global biodiversity(生物多样性) protection. Through the combined efforts of China and the international community, the future of giant pandas looks brighter.
