The Treasure of King Solomon* is a classic adventure novel by H. Rider Haggard. The story follows Allan Quatermain, a brave hunter and explorer from England. One day, he is hired by Sir Henry Curtis and Captain John Good to help find Sir Henry's missing brother, George. George leaves for Africa to chase the legend of King Solomon's hidden treasure and never returns.
The three men set off for the unexplored lands of Africa. Their journey is full of dangers. First, they have to cross a vast and hot desert, where they almost run out of water. Then, they face fierce wild animals, such as lions and crocodiles, during their trip through the jungle. What's worse, they meet a group of unfriendly local tribes(部落) who see them as invaders (入侵者). With Quatermain's rich experience and wisdom, they manage to get through these difficulties safely.
After weeks of hard travelling, they reach a hidden valley. There, they find a mysterious tribe living in an ancient city built around the ruins of King Solomon's temple. To their surprise, George is still alive—he is saved by the tribe after being attacked by a lion and becomes a trusted advisor to the tribe's king. The tribe believes that the treasure in the temple is a gift from their ancestors(祖先) and will punish anyone who tries to take it away.
Afterwards, the three men and George work together to stop a greedy(贪婪的) tribal leader from stealing the treasure. In the end, they protect the treasure. George decides to stay in the valley with the tribe, as he has found his true home. Quatermain, Sir Henry and Captain Good return to England, taking only a small bag of gold to cover their travel costs.
They realize that the greatest treasure is not gold or jewels, but the friendship and courage they have gained during the journey.
