In the south - west of China, there is a city called Guiyang. It was once a quiet place. But now, it has a new name: China's “Big Data Valley”. Big data means using a lot of computer information to help with work.
This big change started about ten years ago. Why did Guiyang become the choice? Because the weather here is cool, which helps keep big computers from overheating. Also, the land is very solid and good for building. Therefore, many big companies have built their data centres here.
The growth of big data has brought many benefits. It has created new jobs for local people and helped the economy grow faster. For example, a special market called the Big Data Exchange was set up to help trade data.
Now, big data is used in many areas like medicine, education and manufacturing, which makes work in these fields smarter and more efficient. For instance, doctors can use data to help with treatment. In traffic, big data helps predict jams and adjust traffic lights. Farmers use it to decide the best time to water or fertilize (施肥于) crops. It also helps stores recommend products customers may like.
Guiyang's story shows us that a city can use its own advantages (优点) and welcome new ideas to have a brighter future.
