In Yunnan, China, there's a special festival called the Water - Splashing Festival (泼水节). It is one of the most important festivals for Dai people in Yunnan, a province in the southwest of China. It is the Dai's New Year. It's usually in mid - April every year. The celebration usually lasts for three days. The first day is the last day of the old year. It's like Chinese New Year's Eve. The second day is called "Nao Ri". And the third day is New Year's Day of Dai people. The third day is the happiest day through the whole year.
Dai people think water is lucky. It means best wishes for the New Year. At the Water - Splashing Festival, people splash water on every person with all kinds of buckets. Tourists are welcome to join in the festival and some tourists will be surprisingly splashed. So do not bring phones or cameras on the streets during the festival. Enjoy the water and have fun with the friendly Dai people!
