A special and meaningful show, "Homecoming Treasures of Yuanmingyuan",
took
(take) place at Nantong Art Museum on March 7th,
2025. It showed some famous bronze animal heads—monkey, pig, ox, and tiger, etc. from Beijing's Old Summer Palace. They are the symbol of Chinese history, tradition and values. These sculptures were designed in the
eighteenth
(eighteen) century by an Italian artist for Emperor Qianlong.
Unluckily, the sculptures were taken away during the Second Opium War in 1860 and they were separated from our country for
centuries
(century). They stayed abroad for over 150 years. Thanks to efforts since 200
3, including buying them back and donations, several of the Zodiac Heads have been returned to China, while some remain
unknown
(known).
Anyway, this event is seen as a big step in protecting the country's cultural history. The show
caught
(catch) a lot of people's attention during May Day holiday. Lots of
visitors
(visit) came to the museum. "I feel proud
to see
(see) them here. They belong to China," said Li Wei, a local middle school student.
Besides the show, there are talks on protecting cultural treasures and VR tours showing the Old Summer Palace online before it was
completely
(complete) destroyed.
In recent years, China
has made
(make) great efforts to recover these lost cultural treasures. By displaying them in museums, it not only
spreads
(spread) China's history and culture but also shows the importance of valuing our past.
