A Peter survived a fire on Saturday afternoon. Read his description of the experience and learn how to write about escaping from danger.

◆ Structure of the article ◆
Beginning: Set the scene. Introduce the place, time and type of emergency.
Main body { Talk about what you did first. Talk about what you did next.
Ending: Explain how the emergency ended.
B You live on the 12th floor of a building. You were home alone last Saturday afternoon when you smelled smoke. There was a fire on the 15th floor. How did you deal with this situation? Write about it.
It was four o'clock last Saturday afternoon. I was doing my homework alone at home on the 12th floor when I smelled something strange. Then I realized it was smoke. "A fire!" I thought. I felt scared but tried to stay calm.
First, I ran to the door and checked if it was hot. Luckily, it wasn't. I quickly got some wet towels and put them under the door to stop smoke from coming in. Next, I opened the window a little to get fresh air, but I didn't climb out because I was on the 12th floor. Then, I called 119 immediately. I told the firefighters my address, the floor I was on, and that the fire was on the 15th floor. They said they would come right away. After that, I called my parents and told them about the fire. They told me to stay safe and said they were coming home quickly. While waiting, I kept an eye on the door and window, making sure no smoke came in.
About ten minutes later, I heard the sound of fire engines. A short while after, firefighters came to my door and helped me get out of the building safely. My parents arrived soon too. They were worried but very proud of me. The firefighters put out the fire on the 15th floor. I was so glad that everyone was safe.
