Choosing a career is an important decision. It affects your future life, so it is important to plan it carefully. Here are some steps to help you plan your career.
Learn about yourself
Before choosing a career, you need to know your interests, strengths and weaknesses. 44 For example, if you like working with children, you might consider becoming a teacher or a pediatrician (儿科医生). If you are good at Maths and Science, engineering or medicine could be good choices. You can take career tests online or talk to your teachers to learn more about yourself.

Develop necessary skills
Different careers require different skills. For example, a software developer needs to know programming languages, while a teacher needs to have good communication and teaching skills. 47 You can take courses at school, attend workshops or practise skills through part-time jobs. Remember, skills can be learnt and improved with practice.
Review and adjust your plan
Career planning is not a one-time thing. Your interests and goals may change over time, so it is important to review and adjust your plan regularly. 48 If you find that you do not like engineering after studying it for a year, you can switch to a different field that better matches your interests. Do not be afraid to make changes—what matters is that you keep moving towards a career that makes you happy and successful.
