You have big eyes and a small nose. But your friend has small eyes and a big nose. What makes you and your friend look different?
The answer is genes (基因). Scientists found that 15 genes influence (影响) some of our facial features (面部特征). Some of these genes can be passed down (被传给后代) from parents to children. That’s why we often hear people say, “You look like your mum,” or “You look like your dad.”
But what facial features do you get from your mum? And what parts come from your dad?
Eyes
If both of your parents have double eyelids (双眼皮), you can have double eyelids or single eyelids (单眼皮).
If both of your parents have single eyelids, you usually (通常) have single eyelids.
Chin (下巴)
If one of your parents has a big chin, usually you have a big chin.
Nose
If one of your parents has a big nose, you may have the same nose size.
Skin (皮肤) colour
One parent has a light skin colour. The other parent has a dark skin colour. Most of the time, you have a skin colour in between.
No two faces are the same. Even twins don’t look the same. Their looks are just very similar (相似的). They can have some small differences.
