Last weekend, our English teacher asked us to read a good book and hand in a book review on Monday. She told us to choose carefully and think about
what
we can write in our reviews.
I love reading, so I decided to read a famous novel
called
Gulliver’s Travels that I borrowed from our school library.
On Saturday morning, I sat at my desk and began to read. But after reading for an hour, I felt
tired
because I slept very late the night before. I wanted to give up, but I told myself that I
must
keep reading to finish my homework on time.
As I read on, some sentences were too difficult and I had difficulty
understanding
the main ideas of the story. I didn’t know
how
to understand these parts well. Once I was so careless that I
fell off
from my chair and my book fell on the floor.
My sister found me and advised me
to have
a short rest first. She said, “You can
find out
the key ideas of each paragraph first, and then
prepare
a simple summary for yourself. ” She also told me that I would manage
to finish
the whole book if I kept trying.
I followed her advice and rested for ten minutes. Then I
continued
to read. To my surprise, the story became much easier and more interesting. I found it so wonderful that it was well worth
reading
.
In the afternoon, I started to write my review. I wrote down what I liked most and what I learned from the
story
. On Monday morning, I
handed in
my book review on time. My teacher praised me for my good work. I felt really happy and learned that reading can bring me much fun and knowledge.
