Last summer holiday, my mother suddenly fell ill and went to the emergency room. My dad and I were scared at that time. My brother was in the US. He was about to take an important exam. He didn't know what happened. When my brother asked me why Mum did not answer his phone calls, I didn't tell him the truth. I didn't want to disturb him. So I told him that Mum was busy making money with Dad.
My brother believed me and felt relieved. Later, when my mum wanted to call my brother, I told her that he was going to take an important exam so we'd better not disturb him. If he knew our mum was ill, he would be worried.
I felt so sorry that I lied to my brother. When I told my mum about this later, she said, "Lies are sometimes beautiful when the will is good."
