Vincent van Gogh, widely considered as one of the most influential artists in history, was born on March 30, 1853, in the Netherlands. His father and grandfather were ministers(牧师), $\underline{\ \ 1\ \ }$ others in his family worked in the art world. Though he only lived for 37 years, Van Gogh has $\underline{\ \ 2\ \ }$ influenced the world of art.
Van Gogh had trouble finding satisfying $\underline{\ \ 3\ \ }$ and met many personal problems in his early years. He worked as an art dealer, a teacher, and even a pastor before turning to painting full-time in his late twenties. His early works were $\underline{\ \ 4\ \ }$ and sad, reflecting(反映) the hardships he faced in life. $\underline{\ \ 5\ \ }$, during a trip to Paris in 1886, he discovered a new style of painting among the artists—the Impressionism, which had a deep influence on his style and skills.
In 1888, Van Gogh moved to Arles in the south-east of France, where he $\underline{\ \ 6\ \ }$ some of his most famous works, including "Starry Night" "Sunflowers" and "The Bedroom". These paintings are known for their bright colours, energetic brushwork, and strong feelings.
Although Van Gogh started to become $\underline{\ \ 7\ \ }$ as an artist, people didn't buy his paintings, so he $\underline{\ \ 8\ \ }$ saw himself as a failure(失败者). And at the same time Van Gogh continued to have mental illness and financial trouble. Before his $\underline{\ \ 9\ \ }$ in 1890, Van Gogh had only been able to sell one of his paintings.
Nowadays, people really value Van Gogh for his special ideas and new ways in making art. His influence can be seen in the works of countless artists who have $\underline{\ \ 10\ \ }$ in his footsteps. Through his paintings, Van Gogh continues to communicate the depth of his emotions and the beauty of the world around us.
