The Grand Canal (大运河) is a man - made waterway in eastern China. It runs from north to south. Dating from 2,500 years ago and running over 3,000 kilometres through the east of China, it is one of the world's oldest and longest canals. The China Grand Canal Museum is located on the bank of the ancient Grand Canal in Yangzhou, Jiangsu Province.
The museum opened its doors to the public on 16 June, 2021. It has two wonderful buildings: a four - floor building in the shape of a large ship waiting to set sail, and a 100 - metre - tall Tang - style tower. The museum has 11 halls. They tell the history of the Sui - Tang Grand Canal, the Beijing - Hangzhou Grand Canal and the East Zhejiang Canal. These canals give people a treasure of historic and cultural places of interest. People still use them for transport (交通), irrigation (灌溉) and flood control.
