Once upon a time, there were four seeds (种子). The wind carried them through the air until they finally landed on an open space in a forest. There, they stayed hidden in the ground, hoping they could grow up and become big trees.
But when the first seed began germinating (发芽), they knew that it wouldn't be such an easy task. In that area, there lived a group of monkeys, and the smallest ones liked to throw bananas at any plant that was starting to grow, just for fun.
They threw so many bananas at the first seed that it was almost split (分裂) in two. And when the seed told the others what had happened, they all thought it would be better to wait for that group of monkeys to move away before they tried to grow.
However, the first seed thought she should at least try. When she tried, she was hurt by the bananas. The other seeds told her to stop, but she never gave up and tried again and again. Every time she was hurt by the bananas, she tried even harder.
