Charlotte's Web is a classic children's book written by American writer E.B. White in 1952. However, it's still loved by people all over the world. It's such a fun book that you don't want to put it down once you read it. This story is mainly about a pig named Wilbur and his friend Charlotte, the spider who teaches us what a true friend should be like. She keeps her words to save Wilbur but sadly ends up with her own death.
The story begins when an eight-year-old girl Fern Arable is sad to hear that her father plans to kill the pig who was born weak and short. Persuading(说服) him that the little pig has a right to live and promising to look after him, she saves the animal and names him Wilbur. As Wilbur grows older, Fern's uncle buys it and so it moves to the barn(畜棚) of Zuckerman's family. There he meets his best friend in life, Charlotte the spider. Everything goes well until one day the bad news comes that he will become a dinner. Wilbur doesn't want to die and Charlotte promises to save him. She is clever enough to let people believe that Wilbur is different. She writes words like “Some pig” and “terrific” on her web to encourage him. In the end, Wilbur wins a prize and becomes famous. But Charlotte is so tired that she dies. However, her baby spiders are born and the cycle of life continues.
The writer E.B. White also wrote another two children's books—Stuart Little in 1945 and The Trumpet of the Swan in 1970. Besides writing children's books, he wrote books for adults, as well as writing prose and poetry(散文和诗歌). He won several awards because of his beautiful words and the spirit his words try to tell us.
