理性思维 ① Have you ever talked to your phone and ended up feeling lonelier? Chen, a 14 - year - old student, shared her story. After failing a Maths test, she turned to ChatGPT for comfort. At first, she felt better. But later, she found herself avoiding conversations with friends and spending more time alone with her phone. In fact, her story is not alone.

② Recently, two studies, one by OpenAI and the other by the MIT Media Lab, found that people who had very personal and emotional conversations with ChatGPT usually felt lonelier. They might depend on this AI tool more emotionally, and have fewer friends in real life. But we don't know if ChatGPT makes them feel lonely, or if lonely people just like to talk to it to feel better. These studies are just the beginning.
③ Researchers also found something interesting about different kinds of chatbots(聊天机器人). At first, voice - based chatbots seemed to help people feel less lonely than text - based ones. But the more people used the voice - based chatbots, the less this advantage lasted. After using ChatGPT for four weeks, female users seemed to go out and meet people less often compared to male users. Also, when users used ChatGPT's voice mode with a different gender(性别), they felt much lonelier and depended on the chatbot more at the end of the study.
④ These findings are similar to an earlier study in 2023. MIT Media Lab researchers found that chatbots usually answer in a way that's like the feelings in the users' messages. If the users are happy, the chatbots will give happy answers, acting as “emotional mirrors”.
⑤ Dr Andrew Rogoyski from the Surrey Institute for People said that AI chatbots can be “dangerous”. “We need to do more research to know how they influence our social and emotional lives,” he said. “I think we're doing something like operating on people's minds without knowing what will happen in the long run. We've seen some bad things about social media, and this could be even worse. ”
⑥ Will AI become a helpful tool or a silent trap? The answer remains unclear, but one thing is certain—we need to think further about how technology shapes our hearts and relationships before it's too late.
