Today, a man talked very loud on his phone on a train between Malvern and Reading, making many passengers unhappy. I wonder how he will act if I read my newspaper out loud on the train. I have no courage to do it, though.

Why not give it a try? The late musician Dennis Brain is said to have asked a fellow train passenger to turn off his radio. When he was refused, he took out his French horn and started to practise.

I don't see how musical instruments can help improve manners in public. Don't do what you dislike to others. Once, a passenger next to me talked out loud on his mobile phone. I left my seat quietly, giving him a chance to finish his conversation. He realized this and said sorry to me when I came back. When his phone rang again later, he left his seat to answer it. You see, a bit of respect can do the job well.

Many years ago, there were thousands of trees in a jungle. Among them two were very good friends. The same jungle was home to some powerful lions and many other small animals. Those lions used to kill small animals living in that jungle and eat them.
One day, the two trees were talking. The first tree said, "These lions are noisy. They must be driven out of this jungle."
"Yes," agreed the other tree.
A wise old tree who was listening to the friends said, "They might be dangerous, but they are keeping us safe from woodcutters. No woodcutters dare to come into the forest which has lions."
However, this advice did not go into the minds of the trees. The two friends decided to frighten the lions away. That evening, the two trees started shaking heavily.
"We will frighten the lions away. They will leave this jungle and never come back," the two friends talked and laughed happily.
"Do not do that," shouted the wise tree.
But the two friends did not listen. They began moving in the wind and making frightening noises. All the wild animals in the forest felt scared and ran away.
"Huh! Now we can enjoy the quiet jungle," they laughed again.
Before long, a woodcutter came to the forest and started cutting trees. "Now there is no fear of the lions," he said to himself. Soon other woodcutters came.
Seeing this, the wise tree said, "Now all of us will die."
The two friends cried out, "How stupid we have been! We should have listened to you."
