When you come back to your home on a hot summer evening, you find that the lights are already on, the air conditioner has been working for 30 minutes to cool the room, and the rice you prepared this morning has been cooked right before you arrive. This is the magic of a smart home.
A smart home is a special home where you can remotely control things with your phone. There are many kinds of smart home products, from making your home warm to making it bright, and even keeping you safe.
And they are really smart. Smart home apps even have self-learning skills. It means that they can learn when you usually do things and change to suit you. Some can also set lights to change based on sunrise or sunset times. And some systems can tell you if there is someone in your home when you are not there, or even call for help if there is danger.
Although smart homes are getting more popular around the world, there are some problems from time to time. Paul Boag, a man from the UK who helps people with their technology, wrote that it is not always easy to set up these smart things. Even his wife, who used to be an engineer, found fitting the smart home light switches(开关) was a huge challenge for her. Besides, the smart home apps can cause trouble. Many of them are not designed well, and each device(设备) has its own app. This means you have to deal with a lot of apps. But except for these problems, smart homes are still a great way to make life easier.
