In 2003 he went to Hong Kong and played major roles in many films. In 2008 he began to work as a director. In 2015 the film Wolf Warriors directed and starred by Jason Wu won a big success. The Wolf Warriors series made him world-famous and win lots of awards. In 2019 he acted in China's first science-fiction film The Wandering Earth and it made him even more popular than before.
