Peter was chosen to play the role of a traffic policeman in a play, but he knew nothing about this job. Peter decided to watch some traffic policemen on the roads
so that
he could play the role well.
Every morning before the
rush hour
, he drove his car to a big
car park
in the city centre. He
parked
his car there and then walked to the crossroads nearby. He watched the policemen there carefully and talked with some of them. He found there was
such
a heavy traffic on the roads
that
the policemen didn't even have any weekends or holidays. They spent most of their time outside.
Though
the weather was awful sometimes, they had to stand on the roads. They were
so
patient
that
they could explain a lot to people when there was a problem. Peter learnt a lot about the policemen and was moved by them.
A month later, when he was standing on the stage, he was
amazed
to find that he could play the role very well. People almost
mistook
him
for
a real traffic policeman. Peter decided to give the policemen some tickets
in the first row
. He thought they would be very happy to watch his acting.
