A
Dear humans,
It's the first time that I have written to you, my children.
I used to send you many messages. But you always overlooked them. So I wanted to write you a letter.
In the very beginning, let me tell you more about our family. Dear humans, besides you, I have many other children. Some swim in water, and some live in ice-covered places. Some are as small as your fingernails, such as bugs, and some are as big as cars. They might be very close to you, or even live in your house. But there are others that you may never meet.

You bring them home to be your pets, friends and helpers. You put them in zoos. You kill them for their meat and fur. And you even kill them for fun. They bring you money and happiness, but they also bring illness and death.
I hope you can remember that wild animals are not your food or clothes. They are not killers either.
Humans, you are clever and hard-working. You have colourful cultures and advanced technologies. You can decide where you go.
But you don't respect me. You change my weather; my lands, my rivers... you ask for so much of me, more than what I can give you. I'm worried that one day you will be lonely.
So, humans, grow up to be more responsible.
Yours,
Mother Earth

理解
1. Why did Mother Earth write the letter to humans?
Because she wanted to tell humans that they don't respect her and should be more responsible. She hopes humans can remember that wild animals are not their food or clothes, and they are not killers either.
2. What should we do in daily life if we want to be more responsible?
We should respect and protect wild animals, not kill them for meat, fur or fun. We should also protect the natural environment, not change the weather, lands, rivers, etc. excessively. We should live in harmony with nature and be responsible for our actions.
