Do you remember the elephant “tour group” in Yunnan? Where are they now? They are back at their home!
In March, 2020, a family of 15 wild Asian elephants left their living place in Xishuangbanna, Yunnan Province. They kept going north, through mountains, forests, rivers and even city streets. Finally, the elephants ended their trip safely and happily after 17 months and a 500-kilometre journey.
The Asian elephant is the largest land animal in Asia. Yunnan is the only habitat for wild Asian elephants in China. The province has built 11 nature reserves. However, there are only 300 Asian elephants left in China. The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) is working hard to save them.
