In the USA, most people like to wear jeans. They are nice to wear and look good. Jeans were made in America more than 150 years ago.
A German called Levi Strauss and an American called Jacob Davis made the first jeans in the USA. Jacob was a clothes maker. He wanted to make trousers that couldn’t break easily. But he didn’t have enough money.
Levi had lots of money. So Jacob asked him for help. They started to make their own jeans in 1873. Their jeans are still popular all over the world today.
Blue jeans are made of a kind of very strong cloth. People started calling these trousers “jeans” in the 1860s. Before that people knew them as working clothes. Blue is the most popular colour for jeans, but today jeans come in all colours.
